CELEBRATING THE ICONICS SERIES | PART III | SUSTAINABLE INTERIOR DESIGN

In this series, CELEBRATING THE ICONICS we are applauding some of the most ingenious, timeless, iconic furniture designs and designers of the last century.

This week we continue with Part III  and are Celebrating ...

Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman  c. 1956

One of the most iconic designs of the 20th century

Constructed of soft leather and molded wood, this set was the end result of the Eameses' efforts to create a club chair using the molded plywood technology that they pioneered in the ’40s. Entirely hand-assembled out of parts that are fully replaceable by Herman Miller, the timeless Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman is constructed to last lifetimes.  (DWR)

Eames Upholstered Molded Chair c. 1946

Named by Time magazine as the Best Design of the 20th Century, the Eames Upholstered Molded Plywood Chair form relates directly to the human body and holds you in a comfortable position.

Eames Molded Plastic Chair c. 1950

Originally made of metal, the material was changed to fiberglass and today constructed of recyclable polypropylene. The deep seat pocket and waterfall seat edge keep you comfortable by reducing pressure on your back.

TAKING IN THE SUMMER HOW WONDERFUL!

Happy Fall!

I had a great summer.  How about you?  The weather has certainly co-operated. I spent glorious days and nights in the backyard gazebo, drinking my favourite red, having wonderful conversations, enjoying lovely nutritious food, taking pictures of the wildlife that visit us in our backyard (deer, butterflies, birds), smelling the gorgeous flowers that Joe, my husband nurtured and pampered all summer long.

We had some time to really relax and enjoy time with friends, and family.  I am finding that as I get older, my life has become simpler, less complicated, less stressed and so much more enjoyable. I am doing the things that I really want to do.  Love it!!!!

This is Doris our Deer.  She and has been visiting us for the past 2 years and enjoys apples
and carrots.

I absolutely love spending time in our backyard where we are surrounded by conservation on all 3 sides of our home. Complete privacy with Lake Ontario and a beautiful beach right behind us.  It is like being at a cottage up North without the 2 hour drive.

Joe and I have been working on some personal DIY projects for our home.  Currently, we are working on our bedroom and kitchen.

We decided to make an upholstered headboard which was quite a lot of work but worth every minute. Each night we have spent several hours, covering buttons, tufting, stapling etc. and completed the project within a week.  We are very happy with the results.  We used (2") eco foam, charcoal ultra suede fabric and to give a contemporary feel, pewter nail heads were added.

Our headboard ended up costing 1/10 of what it would have had we purchased it.

What do you think???

I have ordered a down duvet and new bedding, HOTEL STYLE to add to the luxury.

Once, our bedroom reno is complete, I will upload pictures.

Do you have any DIY projects that you would like to share???

I AM ADDICTED TO POLYVORE AND YOU WILL BE TOO!!

WARNING: SERIOUSLY ADDICTIVE

While surfing interior design sites yesterday, I just happened to come across Polyvore.

As quoted directly from the site..............What is Polyvore?

"With 6.5 million monthly unique visitors, Polyvore is the web's largest community of tastemakers where people can discover their style and set trends around the world. Trendseekers and shoppers alike come to Polyvore to discover the hottest brands, products, trends and looks. "

I spent so much time on this site that my head was spinning and I was actually dreaming about it last night!  Of course, I was back on the site this morning first thing.  So don't say I didn't warn you.  Once you enter this site, kiss the next hour or so goodbye!!

I was just playing around to get a feel for the site and created what is called a set.  I am currently in the process of re-doing my bedroom and have chosen Dark Charcoal paint as the backdrop to the bed. The ceiling and remaining 3 walls will be white. The accent colour (cushions, lamp bases) which runs throughout the rest of my home will be a yellow-green shade called (Celadon Green) and there will also be a few touches of black and a hint of fuchsia (orchid or a vase.)

What a great site to get your creative juices flowing. The possibilities are absolutely endless.  I will definitely use this site to come up with concept boards for my clients. I can email directly from the site to my client.  Love it!! I am currently using something else similar but like this site so much more.

Here is what I came up with for my bedroom. I thought for fun, that I would also create an outfit to match my room.  I know that is NUTS!! Hope you enjoy!! Love to know what you think and I would love to see your SETS as well.
